Legal Aid - you could be eligible for help with your legal costs
You might be having difficulty finding a family lawyer that accepts legal aid clients nowadays. Ebborn Law will undertake all family court matters under legal aid except in the case of relationship property disputes.
Why is it Hard to Find a Legal Aid Lawyer?
Recent changes to the way legal aid grants are paid have meant many law firms have chosen to cease providing this service. Prior to the 23rd of July 2012, legal aid family matters were paid on an hourly rate. Now, the grant is paid as a fixed fee for set tasks.
How do I Apply for a Legal Aid Grant?
You don't need to apply, we do that for you. Just call us on (03) 339 2233 and ask for an appointment with a Case Manager, and say you wish to apply for Legal Aid. We'll book a time that suits you and send you a letter along with a form to complete. Bring that form with you to the appointment, along with proof of income and assets, and we'll do the rest! Once your grant has been approved (this usually takes a few days) we'll set you up with an appointment with one of our Lawyers.
How Does Ebborn Law Still Provide a Legal Aid Service?
At Ebborn Law we approach things a bit differently. Our business philosophy is based around being as efficient as possible. To free our lawyers up we have created the position of 'Case Manager'. Case Managers are our clients' first point of call and handle a lot of the non-legal work on cases.
