ACC Claim Law

Are you having ACC issues?

ACC is a no-fault insurance that covers New Zealanders and visitors to recover from accidents, including covering the costs of treatment, support and income. Are you having issues dealing with ACC? We can help you. Contact us or take a look at the questions and answers below.

Question
"I'm injured and ACC are not treating me right... what are my options?"
Answer
There are a number of ways to approach ACC with concerns. You can enter into mediation with them, to come to a resolution. If that fails then there is a formal review process. A lawyer can help make sense of this for you.

Question
"What is the difference between a lawyer and an advocate?"
Answer
There are two major differences: Firstly, a lawyer is not only trained in the law, they are admitted to the Bar - in other words, they are an Officer of the Court; Secondly, lawyers are answerable to the New Zealand Law Society so if you are unsatisfied with their service you have a regulatory body to complain to.
Employment advocates often do not have the level of training, education or insurance cover that lawyers have. Also, they are entirely unregulated.

Question
"Why should I care that advocates are not regulated?"
Answer
Ask the woman who was stung for THOUSANDS of dollars by an advocate who agreed to represent her for a cut of her payout!!!  (see picture next column)
