Ebborn Law's Strategic Intent
PROFIT
It is our stated intent to not shy away or be hesitant about the pursuit of profit, for it is profit that justifies the risks taken by shareholders. If we embrace risk as a business, and make a profit, then we can do what is needed in order to achieve our mission.
Everybody in the firm understands there is a close relationship between a profitable business and individual effort, accuracy and efficiency. Our major partners: the legal profession, the New Zealand government, the social service sector all understand the need for a private business to ensure financial viability. The central nature of profit is that without it we could not provide an equitable service to clients receiving legal aid. It also recognises the efficient and economical use of public monies. Despite the primacy of profit, Ebborn Law will always keep sight of its values and ethics that are founded on social justice, fairness, equity and access – particularly for those at the margins of our society. |
LEADERSHIP
It is our stated intent to approach the future with bold and balanced licence, to never hide our light under a bushel and to be a generous contributor to the betterment of law using our successes and failures as an educational currency.
Our team enjoy the radiance of respect and recognition from their peers due to the responsible and constructive way that Ebborn Law conducts itself. Sustainable leadership requires a high level of responsibility. The energy we focus on being in front must be in equal parts applied to levelling the field where we forge new ground. As a leader in the application of innovation, service delivery and organisational design, Ebborn Law seeks to continuously blaze a trail and conquer new markets. This is necessary to ensure the firm is in a solid position whenever the goalposts change in the future. This will be tempered with an active effort to distribute our knowledge and learnings to the wider communities in which we operate: to put back into the pot as well as to take from it. |
RELATIONSHIPS
It is our stated intent that Ebborn Law will strive to develop strong and meaningful relationships with key people and organisations who we affect by the work we do, who learn from us or who can teach us, and who can affect our business.
Our employees understand and embrace the concept that synergy developed through mutual understanding is a cornerstone of good business. We share our clients with a number of other organisations: legal, social services, financial and accounting, health, schools. This provides an excuse to engage, share and plan for better service delivery. Our place in the family justice system is small, but through aptus nexus – building good links – we increase our influence exponentially. This enhances our reputation, attracts the right sort of talent and reveals opportunities for the firm. Social capital is a powerful currency: hard to acquire but highly valuable. Investments made in building genuine relationships will pay dividends for years to come. |
QUALITY
It is our stated intent to achieve and maintain a high level of quality in everything we do – for every client regardless of wealth or status – because we faithfully believe in society’s need for the rule of law and access to justice for every human being.
Conforming with rules and regulations contributes to a special type of freedom: taking risks becomes safer because the quality of our work underlies and upholds everything we do. Going the extra mile to help our stakeholders – not only our clients – reflects the respect and high regard we hold for the people and organisations we work with. Recognising the Ministry of Justice as our biggest and most important customer shifts the relationship away from compliance toward satisfaction. Quality extends to the offerings we make our staff, be they remuneration, culture, technology or leadership. Encouraging a paradigm shift from traditional legal services to highly dynamic dispute resolution positions Ebborn Law alongside market leaders and game-changers across the globe. |
